i've noticed a lot of challenges and educating the community about the language access. some of the main barriers i've seen within our community as michelle as pointing out us u out that the distrust in city agencies and government based on how they're coming from their countries. i think for a lot of our community members it's hard enough to learn how to navigate the department and system and on top of that i know you're not having the in land services and how to access them. that's been one of the main concerns as they're not knowing how to navigate the departments and trying to get the in land service a difficult. some you thought things excuse me. some of the things we're doing to address this include doing a lot of workshops and ethnic media to make sure we have an opportunity to reach anti. and i think i said to conclude that by saying in collaboration with the language access network we're here to make sure we serve the community >> thank you. thanks to the language access network and the real strong collaboration cigarette up for language equality. madam chair ca

my parents sacrificed their education to make sure that i could go on to finish high school and to go on to college and those great sacrifices i recognize. we have seen so many great leaders that have come up of the sfaisz sacrifices that parents have made. i want to call out some of the leaders (calling names) great organizations that have made incredible accomplishments lately we passed the due process for all ordinance board of supervisors that's because of the leaders of this community. today, we're honoring future leaders people who are macro great accomplishments in their education i want to call them up one-on-one on the stage. first (calling names) (clapping) he's a 12th grader he is was an stent day participate at marshall and it's now a part of the college came back program. he volunteered when it left marshall as a fifth grader he's currently a senior and continues to support marshall as a college bound ambassador. congratulations (clapping) okay. next i would call up an eight grader she demonstrates a willingness to help this is very rare to see she's a social leader. cong

it was a really successful -- a successful education program. we saw the signs on muni bus station, you saw them on tv. and what actually happened as one outcome of that is anecdotally, people told us that they started to drink more water once they understood where it comes from. but also as people had water quality concerns, some of the concerns that christina alluded to in her presentation, people started calling 311 more. so, we had a 10% increase in water quality concerns and that again became another vehicle to talk to people about where their water came from to test to make sure the water was safe and assure them that, you know, in fact it was safe to drink. we also do tours of our water system. so, community residents and organization has an opportunity to go up to hetch hetchy to see the water system at work. supervisor cohen has been a big supporter of the youth internship program we do in the summer for around the sewer system. so, actually right now we have a number of young people from the bayview hunters point who participated this

i'm hydra mendoza, mayor lee's education [speaker not understood] advisor. thank you for having me in the committee. i was asked to give you an update on the involvement of the mayor and what we've been doing in support of city college. so, there absolutely no question the value of city college and many of us attended and many of us continue to support the work that they're doing. the mayor has not been asked -- in regards to his involvement, a lot of the work that we've been doing has been part much behind the scenes, offering up services that come from staff mostly. ~ absent and making sure that they have what's available in terms of our resources. and, so, we've been really focused on making sure that our students and our families continue to go to a high-quality educational institution that will not only bring them to higher education, but work force development. so, the mayor has provided several key staff members that include kate howard, our budget director, ben rosenfield our controller, mickey callahan and [speaker not understood] from the departmen

education to employment is part of our vision from the very beginning. it has taken 10 years to build a youth program in the beginning of that pathway starting with kids as young as 11 years old and also building a bay cat studio. where many of our employers where i went to in many years they said is why would we hire your young people. i would say bay cat hires. instead of feeling sorry for them, please come and look at their work and see their skill set. it's really important for both the youth aspect and the other challenges as many of you know in heading non-profits and this is one important challenge when you ask for the help is that the digital divide is very present especially with our young people coming from under served communities, although how many hours they are not having access to the equipment to work on these areas. so as i say to you these status as an example, two of our interns are full time employed when they first applied. one is for a non-profit. i maun is working at trader joes. i think this idea of work status i'm just painting t
